TECHNICAL DATA
I currently shoot with a Canon digital SLR 6.3 megapixel
camera.
It takes a shot about 2 feet square in 'real size'.
These can be blown up to poster size - 2' x 3' or 3' x 4' - without noticeable
pixelation.
They can also be used for framings smaller than this in amazing detail!
I can also shoot in 'RAW' format, though this takes more editing time
and, to my knowledge, does not produce a picture of greater size.
LENSES:
A 17-85 mm, which I love,
and an 18-55mm, which is smaller, but useful for portraits.
EDITING:
I am a BIG believer cropping the shot RIGHT the second you
take it.
I am very versed in Photshop, but I like using it as little as possible to re-crop
or adjust exposure.
Sometimes it's unavoidable, but most of the time, I like to get it right from
the start.
This means spending a little more time setting up the shot,
but it is well worth it.
99% preperation, 1% perspiration.
LIGHTS:
I have a hot light with barn doors and filters,
3 more hot lights with filters,
a couple of umbrellas,
and large, pro Westcott reflectors, (white, gold, black).
BACKDROPS:
I have also contructed a large 5' x 7' 6-sided shadowbox with
interchangeable cloth backrounds.
This allows me to suspend a model in a color or in complete darkness -
'limbo' lighting, as they call it, where a model appears to be suspended in
a color or blackness!
This is how some of the classic Hollywood photographers shot, (Hurrell, Bull),
etc.
FUTURE:
I am always acquiring new equipment and dedicated to perfecting my
skills.
I am constantly reading and discussing the art form, and have a couple of mentors
I consult with as well.
I will probably soon buy a Fuji FILM camera to take black and
whites with,
and learn to develop my own pics in the darkroom, too.
I want my hands in every process along the way.
